Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the most determined phone from the Chinese manufacturer to date. It has a built-in fingerprint scanner, a total of four cameras, the ability to charge cell phones wirelessly and much more.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is by far the most functional phone, even almost a year after it was announced, it has lost no installments. In just a few years, Huawei shipped phones that felt like replicas of other flagships, and later developed some of the best devices in the world.
The Mate 20 Pro is the best looking smartphone from Huawei. Even compared to the newer P30 Pro model. The curvature of Samsung’s Galaxy S series is certainly inspiring, but it has enough idiosyncrasies to stand out.

Huawei has done something extraordinary, namely that a phone with a 6.39-inch display feels much smaller than it should. This is partly the result of the stretched screen, which now almost reaches the edge.

The Huawei manufacturer is a fan of experimenting with colors, so the Mate 20 Pro is available in a variety of colors.

Oddly enough, the structured back is only available in green and blue. The other colors, including the ” Trippy Twilight Finish ” known from Huawei P20 Pro, have a conventional smooth back. Even if the Mate 20 Pro is not the largest smartphone, it still feels much more comfortable than similar smartphones in this surface structure.

Both the power button and the volume rocker are on the same edge on the sides of the P20 Pro. The other edge is therefore completely free of keys. USB-C is the only port on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, yes, there is no headphone jack. However, there is an IR blaster on the top with which you can control a television.

Like the 3.5 mm socket, the sensor for fingerprints was also excluded. Unlike Apple, however, Huawei no longer forces you to unlock using just the Face Unlock. Instead, the manufacturer has placed a fingerprint scanner under the smartphone’s OLED display. Aside from the fact that you may feel ridiculously progressive, this method of unlocking your P20 Pro enables a cleaner device.

In addition to the fingerprint sensor in the display, there is a setting for unlocking the face. This is probably an inspiration from the iPhone series. The difference is, instead of simply using the front camera, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro creates a depth map of your face using an IR illuminator, a dot projector and the 24 megapixel camera.

This system is far safer for users than simpler solutions and can therefore be used to unlock banking and other apps without worry. With the Mate 20 Pro, you do not need fingerprint authentication. It also works amazingly well in the dark, don’t worry, the screen won’t light up and won’t blind your tired eyes.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro display

Curved OLED panel, it looks good, that’s one point more for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. It is the excellent 6.39-inch OLED display that leads to this. The panel has no corners, they are rounded and the bulges on the sides offer a sharp resolution of 3120 x 1440, for users of the Mate 20 PRO. However, some have indicated that the sides feel too curved and have a sharp surface.

You will also find that the curvatures capture much more light than the flat part of the screen. This in turn leads to reflection in bright surroundings.

However, if you overcome these aspects, you will use the smartphone with the best display on the market. Mate 20 Pro OLED offers deep black and infinite contrasts. Although Huawei kept the colors fairly natural, for example, red tones have a nice vibration boost without feeling over-saturated, and greens appear most beautifully through the glow.

There are also many options on the Mate 20 pro to optimize color performance. You can set them cooler or warmer, or activate the “Lively” mode to increase the saturation. HDR (High Dynamic Range) video is also supported here. There is a notch at the top of the display that hides all the sensors required for biometric facial unlocking. Notches do not bother most people, especially if they hide advanced technologies. The notch on the Pro doesn’t just mimic the device on the iPhone, it has its own characteristics. A large number of sensors are housed here and the screen can be pushed out as far as possible.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro performance potential

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is still very fast because it is powered by a Kirin 980. A chipset developed by Huawei itself. The Kirin 980 is based on the 7 nm architecture, the smaller gaps between the transistors are located on each chip. A much smaller distance leads to a best performance and above all to a better effectiveness. The chip remains an eight-core building block. However, four energy-saving cores, two of which are medium-strong and two high-performance cores, have been used, each of which is responsible for certain tasks.

This is certainly also due to the 6 GB RAM, since the company Huawei also stated that the Mate 20 Pro will be even faster in 12 to 18 months. A little bit more important is this property of the smartphone, how fast it feels after buying the device. The Mali G76 MP10 is responsible for the graphics. This smartphone is also an absolute gamble for those users who are gamers. There may be special gaming phones, but with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro you won’t need any, that should be taken very seriously. As a mobile player you will clearly feel the difference. Intense titles such as Asphalt 9 game start much faster than the competition.

Huawei’s smartphones have always impressed with strong reception of WLAN and mobile data as well as the Mate 20 Pro. This is also the case here, phone calls sound clear and since the phone supports dual SIM, you can insert two nano SIM cards and use them properly. Interestingly, there is no microSD support in the Mate 20 Pro, which is surprising, but instead Huawei has developed a new expandable memory card called Nano Memory. As you can see from the name, this card is the same size as a nano SIM card and fits into the same slot. The lack of microSD support is alleviated by the internal memory of 128 GB, so there is nothing to complain about. The omitted socket for headphones is not felt to be missing because it is compensated for both by a dongle for connecting wired headphones and by a pair of USB-C earphones that can be counted on. The Mate 20 Pro also has a decent speaker configuration with sounds coming from both the notch and the bottom of the device.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro software

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a lot to offer, but unfortunately the software still needs to be improved, users say. In particular, Huawei’s intrusive EMUI, which runs on Android 9 Pie, is still a strange combination of Google’s software and iOS. The app page is perfect for an iOS-like appearance, from several home screens crowded with apps, not to mention an excess of bloatware, whether all users will like this is still questionable.
