The Huawei P40 Pro

If you absolutely need a Huawei P40 Pro, you can get the most out of this handset – it has a luxurious design, long battery life, and one of the best cameras we’ve ever seen on a phone.

However, for the average user, this is not a phone that we would recommend. Due to the Huawei ban in the U.S., the phone does not have Google Mobile Services. The handset does not have access to popular Android apps such as the Google Play Store, YouTube, Gmail and a host of others.

In our time with the Huawei P40 Pro, we found this to be frustrating and bordered on the goal of having a smartphone in 2020. If we can’t access the services we use on Android devices every day, our experience with the Huawei P40 Pro has been compromised and it is likely that you would find the same.

However, the Huawei P40 Pro offers a premium design that surpasses everything the company has previously done, as well as a high-resolution screen that is a real pleasure.

Huawei’s P40 Pro

The Huawei P40 Pro’s camera is one of the best we have ever used. It offers significantly improved low-light performance and a strong point-and-shoot mode that gives you good-looking photos every time you press the shutter button.

We also found that the Huawei P40 Pro’s battery life is top notch, so you can use a full two days if you use the device only marginally.

Ultimately, however, and we will examine this in more detail below, the Huawei P40 Pro is held back by the lack of useful software. Over time, the experience gets better and there are ways to avoid some of the biggest frustrations. However, if alternative devices from Apple, OnePlus and others cost a similar amount and include the full range of apps that you would expect from a modern smartphone, it is very difficult to recommend choosing the latest version of Huawei.
