LG G8S ThinQ
One of the first things you might notice about the new G8S ThinQ is its oversized notch. The ToF camera houses the notch in it, so it is not used to show off. the G8S ThinQ still has a ratio of over 80% screen area. The back of the device is already conventional these days, it has a shiny glass design. The G8S ThinQ is similar to a sandwich made of metal and glass. The LG device is currently only available in Mirror Black. But you should know that the color doesn’t really look like the name black, but looks more like bluish gray than black. The white version of the G8 is expected.
The G8S ThinQ is a really average smartphone, it is neither too heavy nor too big. The IP68-certified Mi 9 ensures that it is dustproof and waterproof. It is also MIL-STD-810 compliant, so it has successfully passed 14 environmental and climate tests. This has not been certified but we believe the LG responsible.
Connectivity of the G8S ThinQ
The G8S ThinQ comes with 128 GB of memory and 6 GB of RAM. However, you can expand the storage space as this is possible by an integrated card slot, by 2 TB. The device supports exFAT, which can read files larger than 4 GB. The smartphone is also a dual SIM device.
Of course, the G8S ThinQ Bluetooth works with 5.0 and NFC. The pleasing 3.5 mm headphone jack is also returning to the G8S ThinQ.
Communication and GPS features
The G8S ThinQ enables all modern Wi-Fi standards up to 802.11ac. The G8S ThinQ also supports many different LTE bands, which is useful for those who travel around the world. Unfortunately, the upload speeds are a bit too slow, which we didn’t expect from the G8S ThinQ.
G8S ThinQ uses BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS and GPS, including A-GPS navigation as location services. What others can do, the G8S ThinQ can do the following, outdoors, to maintain satellite reception with an accuracy of up to four meters. Unfortunately, however, it does not work in the house, which is normal for the price of such smartphones.
Call quality with the G8S ThinQ
LG pre-installs its unier site via telephony apps, which work just as well as the endless alternatives. The call app subdivides, like general, call history, contacts and favorites into tabs, of course contact groups can also be managed. It did average in the test, so that, voices did not sound crystal clear, but sounded better via the hands-free system.
LG G8S ThinQ cameras
LG equips the G8S ThinQ with three reversing cameras. A 12 MP main sensor, a 13 MP wide angle sensor and a 12 MP telephoto lens. The main camera on the back has a lens of 1: 1.8. The pixel diameter of 1.4 micrometers allows a lot of light even in poor lighting conditions. Our test device can keep up with 12 MP even with flagships like the iPhone XS Max, but unfortunately the main sensor lacks light sensitivity. In poor lighting conditions, the sensor leads to sharp-looking images. Not to forget that the wide-angle camera does a good job. These are supplemented by a bad 8 MP front sensor and a ToF camera. And that is one of the biggest selling points of the G8S ThinQ. The ToF camera uses infrared to create a 3D model of a scene and captures more depth of field information. And as I said, that’s more than a conventional camera sensor. Apple uses a different facial recognition system and AR emojis. On the other hand, the G8S ThinQ uses its ToF camera to make more accurate bokeh effects, but the differences between those captured by our review sample and those of the Pixel 3 XL are minimal. The device cannot use optical image stabilization with these settings, but the G85 ThinQ can still record videos with up to 4 K at 60 FPS. If you want to record videos in 4K, you have to reduce the frame rate to 30 FPS. The standard camera app can switch between the focal lengths during recording and the image quality of videos is just as good as that of photos.
LG G8S ThinQ Accessories and scope of guarantee
The G8S ThinQ package includes the accompanying headphones, the charger, a charging cable and a SIM tool. In addition, a protective cover made of silicone and a cleaning cloth.
G8S ThinQ is guaranteed by the manufacturer for 24 months, and LG has also installed an app for analyzing smartphone complaints, i.e. from a distance from the company. With this, they will no longer have to go to work straight away.
Use that LG G8S ThinQ
The G8S ThinQ is equipped with a precise touchscreen and volume control. Not to forget the button for calling the Google Assistant. This model of the LG also makes it possible to perceive air movement gestures. The fingerprint sensor on the back is easy to use, unfortunately the same cannot be said about face authentication. An extremely big step for the LG G-series is the long-lost transition from IPS to OLED screens. Improving display technology also has disadvantages. One disadvantage of OLED screens is an important one, this is about their health, using pulse width modulation (PWM) to regulate the brightness, can lead to eye pain and headache in some people. LG has various presets for adjusting the color rendering of the display. You can set the white balance automatically as well as manually.
The G8S ThinQ is not a smartphone that you cannot use outside because it quickly adapts to any lighting condition.
LG G8S ThinQ performance
This flagship is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, so it has flagship-level performance. With this feature, you shouldn’t notice any slowdown in daily use in principle. Benchmark results like PCMark underline this in particular. LG is equipping its latest flagship with UFS 2.1 flash memory. The G8S ThinQ microSD card reader cannot keep up with that of its competitors due to its slow speed. With the Adreno 640, most high end games with 60 FPS on high graphics can be played through this smartphone, with the Arena of Valor fluctuating between 53 FPS and 61 FPS during our game tests. The speed doesn’t pose a problem on this phone, games like Temple Run 2 ran smoothly in tests, and even in challenging sections there were no input delays.
LG G8S ThinQ temperature
LG has created a smartphone that feels hot even when idle. The surface is 32 ° C even when idling, the temperature increases by 3 to 6 degrees under load.
Audio playback of the LG G8S ThinQ
LG has equipped its latest piece with real stereo speakers. The reproduction of these, was amazingly good, high and low sounds are very pleasant to hear. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is present, which sets the device apart from other modern flagships. You can also connect other audio speakers via Bluetooth.
Energy management and energy consumption
There are devices on the market that use less energy than the G8S ThinQ. The energy consumption under load was measured between 5 W and 10 W.
LG G8S ThinQ battery life
One of the best advantages of the G8S ThinQ may be its 3,550 mAh battery capacity, which unfortunately doesn’t last long. For an intensive working day, it is steadfast without any problems. The quick charge feature allows users to take less than 2 hours to reach 100% charge.
